Text Box: June Recital
Saturday June 5th at the Zankel Building, Skidmore College.
Please make a note — we are in the new building , right in front of the Filene Building. Due to the smaller size of the hall, there will be three shows this year.
Text Box: used to playing in public before an event. This is probably the most important thing you can do.
-- Don't back off now.  Reward yourself when you practice. Make a chart.  This is the time to really cement the details, to play the pieces correctly, and to iron out the rough spots.  When you play for your friends—if they hear any rough spots, those are areas you need to address.
-- Memory -- Play without the music in front of you, not just without looking.  Practice starting in the middle of the piece, not just at the start. Being able to start at different spots helps you have a plan in case you have a memory slip.
-- Check tempos with your metronome, look for spots where you speed up or slow down too much.  You may not be aware of these areas without the extra check the metronome provides.
-- Try playing your pieces on the table top, away from the piano.  See if you can get through the whole piece without being distracted.  This is a great exercise in concentration. It sounds silly, but is actually much harder than it sounds, and can be very useful when you have to spend any time away from the piano.
-- DON’T PUT ANYTHING OFF!!  If you know that you need to work on pedal or an area of a piece, today is the day. Get to it today, don't save it for the last minute!

Summer vacation is approaching and the end of the school year draws near. The June /summer tuition is due by the first week in June. This tuition is $110, which includes the lesson before the recital, and serves as a deposit for 4 lessons in the summer. The payment also reserves your spot for the fall, as new students call and are put on our waiting list. You are encouraged to take lessons as often as possible throughout the summer. Students pay for and are expected to take at least 4 lessons over the course of the summer vacation, to be arranged with your teacher. Please be sure all payments are up to date before the recital to retain your time for next year.
Music Return eekh:
Many students have borrowed music throughout the year. Please check through your piano benches and bags, and return any Etudes music you find. The cost of music replacement is very high; in order to keep lending fees down , we need to insure that none wanders far from home.
